THIS is Florida?

Montverde doesn’t look quite like the Florida many visitors expect.

Set among rolling green hills and lakes, this little town of fewer than 2,500 residents can feel more like the foothills of California than Central Florida. Guests arriving for the first time have looked out across the hills and actually asked us that very question. We thought the same thing the first time we came to here. Yes, this is Montverde, Florida.

Tucked among those hills is Lake Florence—a 144-acre, spring-fed private lake with only a small number of homes along its shoreline. It feels remarkably removed from the bustle of Central Florida, yet everything you came here to explore is still within reach.

Most days around the lake are wonderfully quiet, with birds and water providing much of the soundtrack. Occasionally, nearby Montverde Academy hosts an athletic event and you may hear some of that energy carrying across the community.

Do a lot...or, do very little.

EXPLORE THE INTERIOR

Some guests come ready to get on the water. Others are perfectly happy just looking at it.

Paddle before breakfast, fish for an afternoon—or settle into the screened lanai with a book, your laptop or absolutely nothing on the agenda. Have coffee while the morning mist lifts from the lake. Take an afternoon nap. Spend a warm January afternoon outside simply because you can.

Some guests stay a few days. Others settle in for a few weeks. Perhaps that's why so many of our winter guests return year after year.

After a while, it starts to feel like your own little place on the lake.

Guests are welcome to bring their own ski boat, fishing boat, or other suitable watercraft with prior approval. Lake access is through a private boat launch and a $20 launch fee applies.

Planning to bring a boat? Please review our boat requirements before booking to be sure your watercraft is compatible with Lake Florence, our dock and boat lift.
